Near and Far

One of the greatest things about the Conference on World Affairs is the bridge it creates between “near” and “far”.  Participants come from all over the world to attend and share their perspective on current issues from the economy to arts, from food to green living, from music to literature and on and on.  The people who moderate each panel- local celebrities and experts contribute the Colorado aspect.

While I’m wildly excited to hear Ms. Sweeney, Mr. Kassoy and Mr. Tree’s thoughts on Food Porn (one of the panels I’m most looking forward to) I’m actually most anxious to hear from Bobby Stuckey.  If you’re not yet familiar with Frasca on East Pearl, you need to be.  A regular media darling and a recent Beard Foundation nominee, Frasca consistently serves one of the best meals and experiences in Boulder. Food and Wine Magazine also named it a “Pairing Mecca” in their most recent issue. Mr. Stuckey is the Master Sommelier and Co-Owner and came to Boulder after first working in Aspen at the Little Nell and then at The French Laundry in Yountville, CA where he received the Beard Foundation “Outstanding Wine Service” Award in his first year.  He’s charming, handsome and exceptionally well educated in both wine and business.  He’s also a runner- he finished the New York Marathon in 2:47:23 last year- and a cyclist, both of which endear him to the Boulder community obsessed with health and fitness.  And this is the beauty of the Conference. It brings people we all know about to Colorado and pairs them perfectly with local experts.  It creates the opportunity for panelists, moderators and attendees to have a discussion about interesting topics.  The Conference may provide the name of the panel but the panelists then choose the direction takes.  Who knows where they will go with “Food Porn: Out of the Kitchen and Onto the Couch”- Monday April 5th at 3:00pm in Chemistry 140.
